This story keeps getting interesting year-on-year with vinyl sales reaching an all-time high in 2021 (since 1990).

When I started selling vinyl records back in 2015 at Vinyl Groove Cafe in Lytham, vinyl was still a niche purchase primarily for music collectors but in the last 6-7 years this has changed dramatically. Many people of all ages fell into three camps, those who kept onto their collections (stored in the loft), people who gave away their record collections because they belived CD’s then downloads were the future (sadly, some even disposed in a skip). Last but not least although the most exciting, we have teenagers buying and starting their own collection from scratch, so the future does indeed look very promising and not as some cynics thought vinyl sales were just a fad/trend.

Great vinyl sales can have a huge knock on effect as the record companies are struggling to keep up with demand, sometimes there are long gaps in-between repressing some vinyl titles. The only way to improve supply is opening more pressing plants around the world. Let’s see how the record companies deal with this supply and demand challenge.
